Swoonfest

I stumbled upon the new shots for J Crew Spring 2012 collection thanks to being tipped off by Glitter Guide in my inbox this morning. I love the range of color they are offering and that they work in such great scales together. You could just roll around in the store and come out looking adorable no matter what. Might be making a pit stop down there this weekend…

Snow Day

Last week we had an amazing night when it legitimately snowed (in Portland terms). Here we get really really excited for anything resembling snowflakes, so when it started to stick, and when it really started to thicken up, the whole city got giddy. The best part was that Pickles had never been in real snow before (read: again, we live in Portland). She couldn’t even handle herself, and with no traffic on Mississippi Ave she went crazy.

Pickles also decided that she wants to take up a part time job as snow plow. She kept stopping to eat the snow and was leaving a little trail behind her.

There was something so fun about all of these strangers showing up out in the street super late at night to play like kids in the snow… it was beautiful. In  the busy lives we all lead it felt so good to just stop and be silly (and to realize you weren’t the only ones doing it).

It’s that time of year.

I believe in sparkles year round, but this is truly the kickoff for the glittering season. I couldn’t be more excited about it.

I hope you all had a wonderful Holiday, I can’t believe the season is already here!

Philly :: Part Two (Art!)

So I loved he Philadelphia Museum of art so much I had to do a separate entry, just on it. Being a huge Duchamp and Dada fan, I don’t know how I was oblivious to the fact that they have an entire room devoted to Duchamp…. and another to Cy Twombly… And a bunch of Jasper Johns… and Pollock… and the list keeps going.

Needless to say, I was stoked to be there and went into completely-in-awe-of-the-greats-mode and probably freaked out my coworkers (like when I went to the MoMa in NYC for the first time). Luckily neither of them were there when I got all emotional when I laid eyes on the “Nude Descending A Staircase” by Duchamp. I think I just got so overwhelmed in the room, surrounded by pieces I admired so much, yet thought I would never be able to see in my life. Yup, I got all teary about it.

Valentines Day is coming!

I love Valentines Day. I never used to, but I do now because D and I have a little tradition where we can’t actually buy eachother gifts. The rule is you have to make them. This takes the financial, superficial pressure off, and makes it kind of a fun game. I also love Valentines Day because I have the best girlfriends ever. I’d like to think that they are my Valentines just as much!

We all know I love Kate Spade, and they always do the cutest things around Holidays like this. This year they just launched the site B MINE. You may have already seen it mentioned over on Oh Joy! because she was one of the lovely ladies to design an e-card for them (hers is above!).

Head on over and check it out, below is the list of designers, as well as a few more examples of my favorites ❤

Get over to B MINE to send some cards and justtake in the fun design-work!

Color Me Pretty

So I finally took the plunge and bought the color wheel necklace from BuyOlympia.com and I’m in love. I feel like it really is the perfect amount of staement, without being too flashy. Plus, can I find another necklace that is more me??

Check out their website, they have a ton of fun jewelry (as well as prints, books, etc.) and are located right here in Portland (you may recognize their brick and mortar store Land a lot easier).

Happy Tuesday!

Cheers to 2011!

And with that, I will spring into this new year with some thing I cannot WAIT to improve and tackle. I get a little too ambitious with my to=do lists sometimes, so I will intend to keep this one brief for your sake!

My 11 Points of Focus for 2011:

1. Don’t take things so personal. I tend to over-think everything and that is the cause of 75% of my stress. I would have more hair, less grey and a much happier self if I didn’t read into everything that other people did.

2. Give myself enough time to stay organized. Prioritize time to keep things clean and organized as I work, instead of always thinking I should just wait and tackle it when I have time. It’s easier to focus and quicker to navigate when everything is in it’s own place and easy to find!

3. Slow Down. Prioritize what actually deserves the stress, and hand it out accordingly. I’m missing the important stuff by being so stressed about things that don’t matter in the big picture. Recognize the difference.

4. Make more things at home. Whether mending clothing that needs it, creating something completely new, or just making things to stay inspired. DO IT MORE.

5. Trust your gut. It tends to be right more often than I’d like to admit, so I just need to trust it.

6. Be a better lactose-intolerant. Stop cheating, that’s why I always feel so terrible and I know it.

7. Read more. I always say this, but it never stays a habit. It won’t become a habit unless I enforce it better.

8. Buy less, but better quality. It’s ok to grab an “of-the-moment” look at Forever 21, H&M, etc. but when they are supposed to be wardrobe staples, or footwear, hunt for an incredible deal on something that will last. 9 times out of 10 I can find something of great quality on a sale that puts it into the price zone of those other brands, yet it will last 10x longer.

9. Make better purchases. Stop buying things that I am in lust with, and only buy things I’m in love with. Know the difference.

10. Be easier on myself. I tend to be a hyper-critical person when it comes to myself. It’s so easy to compare yourself to everyone else these days when you have access to everyone else 24/7. Stop focusing on them and start focusing on me and things I want to change, and not feel the need to change for the wrong reasons.

11. Learn to say no. I miss out on doing things that I really want to do because I am doing things I feel obligated to do. I need to be more selfish and not allow myself to do things I have no interest/investment in, let alone stress out over them.

What are you lovelies looking forward to in 2011? I have a dear friend getting married (and I’m in it!), some fun projects starting up at work, and a whole lot of momentum to get me going into it all! Cheers to 2011, and everything it has planned for us.

happy list

[via Le Love]

So I love the blog The Rockstar Diaries, and she has been doing something fun lately that I really enjoy. She has had various people do a “happy list” of things that genuinely make them happy. I decided I really like this, and have decided to do one myself!

1 Color

2 When Pickles stretches out super long when she first gets out of her crate at lunch.

3 Bright red lips on dark haired girls.

4 That perfect pair of sunglasses that make you feel untouchable and cool

5 Legitimately loving my job so much, sometimes I’m jealous of myself

6 Love graffitti

7 When my boyfriend just grabs my feet and gives me a foot rub, even when I haven’t asked for one

8 Waking up in our loft when the early sun is streaming in the windows

9 Finding new ways to prove color design is a real career path, not a springboard

10 The joy of making something with my own two hands

11 Cruiser bicycles

12 Knowing that just one person out there may see this blog and be inspired to not give up hope to have their own style just because they don’t have a disposable income

13 Balloons

14 Finding that item you have looked for forever, yet gave up on ever finding

15 Oversized accessories

What would your list be? All of a sudden it gets so hard to choose… but that’s a good thing I guess!
