Rainy days.

With the rain truly having set in on Portland, I’m stuck with my annual problem: What the hell do I wear as a jacket?

All of my jackets tend to not be weather-ready, and if they are, somehow I have lost (read:destroyed) them by the following year. So I decided to put together a fun little round-up of six of my favorites from around the web to celebrate this truly gross day here in Portland… Enjoy!

Forever 21 Hello Kitty Collection $ 29.80

The Perfect Piccadilly Coat from Modcloth $112.99

Rag & Bone Leina Jacket on The Outnet $208.25 (was $595)

Gloverall Toggle Coat by J Crew $545

Now I just have to decide which one to get! Stay warm out there…

Cheers to 2011!

And with that, I will spring into this new year with some thing I cannot WAIT to improve and tackle. I get a little too ambitious with my to=do lists sometimes, so I will intend to keep this one brief for your sake!

My 11 Points of Focus for 2011:

1. Don’t take things so personal. I tend to over-think everything and that is the cause of 75% of my stress. I would have more hair, less grey and a much happier self if I didn’t read into everything that other people did.

2. Give myself enough time to stay organized. Prioritize time to keep things clean and organized as I work, instead of always thinking I should just wait and tackle it when I have time. It’s easier to focus and quicker to navigate when everything is in it’s own place and easy to find!

3. Slow Down. Prioritize what actually deserves the stress, and hand it out accordingly. I’m missing the important stuff by being so stressed about things that don’t matter in the big picture. Recognize the difference.

4. Make more things at home. Whether mending clothing that needs it, creating something completely new, or just making things to stay inspired. DO IT MORE.

5. Trust your gut. It tends to be right more often than I’d like to admit, so I just need to trust it.

6. Be a better lactose-intolerant. Stop cheating, that’s why I always feel so terrible and I know it.

7. Read more. I always say this, but it never stays a habit. It won’t become a habit unless I enforce it better.

8. Buy less, but better quality. It’s ok to grab an “of-the-moment” look at Forever 21, H&M, etc. but when they are supposed to be wardrobe staples, or footwear, hunt for an incredible deal on something that will last. 9 times out of 10 I can find something of great quality on a sale that puts it into the price zone of those other brands, yet it will last 10x longer.

9. Make better purchases. Stop buying things that I am in lust with, and only buy things I’m in love with. Know the difference.

10. Be easier on myself. I tend to be a hyper-critical person when it comes to myself. It’s so easy to compare yourself to everyone else these days when you have access to everyone else 24/7. Stop focusing on them and start focusing on me and things I want to change, and not feel the need to change for the wrong reasons.

11. Learn to say no. I miss out on doing things that I really want to do because I am doing things I feel obligated to do. I need to be more selfish and not allow myself to do things I have no interest/investment in, let alone stress out over them.

What are you lovelies looking forward to in 2011? I have a dear friend getting married (and I’m in it!), some fun projects starting up at work, and a whole lot of momentum to get me going into it all! Cheers to 2011, and everything it has planned for us.

A Year in Reflection

Before I go off on all of the things I’d love to change in this upcoming year, I would love to take a step back and reflect on the amazing things 2010 brought me. It was a fantastic year in so many ways, and deserves a little tribute!

Top 10 of 2010:

1. Pickles came into our lives and added a whole lot more excitement. Probably my absolute favorite thing to occur this past year, she has been an incredible addition to our simple little lives!

2. I touched foot in three separate continents in just one year! With a late trip to London, I did a LOT of traveling this year, and am so thankful to have a job that allows me to get inspired by seeing so much that I would never get the chance to otherwise.

3. I have the best friends and family on the planet. This one never needs explanation, but I feel like every year they find a new way to up the ante. I love you all dearly, and you know who you are.  (I wish you all were pictured here!)

4. I have the most amazing boyfriend in the universe. I’m still amazed that he never allows me to get bored or restless, always keeping things fun and interesting. The adorable little creativity-filled life I lead is in a huge part to him allowing me to be myself (my goofy, sometimes ridiculous, self) and still loving me because of it, let alone going crazy right along with me. I love him.

5. Finally finding my music genre (and D making up the “genre” that it is). What we will call “Soulful-Low-Fi-Indie-Folk-Pop”.

6. An amazing year in Fashion. Just when you think you have seen it all, you haven’t, and I can guarantee it’ll only get better from here.

7. Inspiring projects. I know I never share much here about work projects, and I probably never will because I like keeping them very VERY separate. This year brought some exciting new projects however both at work and home, and I can’t wait to see where they lead in the new year.

8. Inspiration. I feel like I was more inspired in 2010 to do and create new things than I ever have been before. It also of course balanced out with some of the biggest creative struggles, but the products that came of it were unheard of for me. I plan to keep this momentum going.

9. The struggles. I had some of the biggest struggles professionally this past year than I ever have faced. On that same note however, I am so thankful for that because it has built me up to be stronger and also shown me the people who have real faith in me and will fight for me when I need it. That alone is worth any struggle you can face.

10. Yet another year of learning more about myself. Every year you feel you know yourself a little better, but was it just me, or did 2010 really have a point to prove?

So with that, Thank you 2010… it was a great year, but I can’t wait to get 2011 off with a bang. I sense an even better year to come and can’t wait! I hope you all are off to a great start, and I will soon post my list of things I plan to conquer in the coming year, so stay tuned.

lust list :: coachella/la trip

So coming up in April, I will be heading out to my first ever music festival! Luckily it is for a work trip, but we will be hitting Coachella, as well as spending a few days in LA beforehand. I’m beyond excited, and all I can think about is the sunny weather and fun clothing options that don’t include wool socks and pea-coats. So I decided I’d put together my little wish-list… Hot On A Dime style (aka affordable… and not solely for lusting!). Let me know what you think!

These little shoes are super cute and I am final for the first time in my life into florals… but only in a micro-print, on an unconventional canvas… like a mens’s dress show… and they fold down even!

$29.80 Forever 21

These great aviators… Love the minty green and that they aren’t totally mirrored. I have a pair from them that I love…

$5.80 Forever 21

Another fun pair of shades from Forever 21… love the pattern. For this cheap, you could buy two in different styles, let’s be honest they might possibly break ;)

$5.80 Forever 21

This cute little dress looks so relaxed and comfortable… I could see it with my strappy sandals I love, or even apair of boots, aviators and a ponytail. Perfect for rolling in and out of different types of events and staying cool!

$47.99 Modcloth

I’ve been obsessed with this little dress for a bit now. We all know I love love love anything slouchy and off the shoulders, but I always suffer from losing my waist in it all. What better answer for a fun summery solution? Hardest part? Deciding between the minty color and the black for me…

$29 Victoria’s Secret

Anyhow… those are just a few things I’ve been lusting for recently. Especially with the upcoming sunny weather and sunny-weather-geared-trip! Aren’t you excited that the sun is getting a little less bashful these days?!
